To You Lyrics

Verse 1: Chandler Moore
Coming back to You
Not just coming, but I'm running
Beneath the surface
And what my eyes have seen
Past the temporary, yeah
I hear You beckoning, yeah
To fall a little deeper, yeah
Further than I've ever known
I'm breaking through the boxes, yeah
I'm running to Your throne

Chorus: Chandler Moore
And I'm coming back to You, ooh
I'm coming back to You, ooh
I'm coming back to You, ooh
I'm coming back to You, ooh

Verse 2: Chandler Moore & Maryanne J. George
What's every other option, yeah
When I know the sweetest choice? (Oh, my God)
My flesh may be a beggar (Yes, it is)
But my spirit knows Your voice (Yes, it does)
And I won't be satisfied (No, no, no)
With temporary pleasures (No)
I wanna taste and see in full (Yes, I do, Lord)
What I've only known in measures

Chorus: Chandler Moore & Maryanne J. George
Let's sing it out y'all, say:
I'm coming back to You, ooh
I'm coming back to You, ooh
I'm coming back to You, ooh
I'm coming back to You, ooh

Spontaneous: Chandler Moore & Maryanne J. George
All the way, all the way, all the way back
Coming back to what we've always known, Jesus
It's our first love, our first love

Bridge 1: Chandler Moore, Chandler Moore & Maryanne J. George
I hear the song Your singing
Crying out, "Run, child, run"
Father, I am returning
I'll stay where I belong
I hear the song Your singing
Crying out, "Run, child, run"
Father, I am returning
I'll stay where I belong
I hear the song Your singing
Crying out, "Run, child, run"
Father, I am returning
I'll stay where I belong (And I'll stay where I belong)
I hear the song Your singing (Yeah, yeah)
Crying out, "Run, child, run"
Father, I am returning
I'll stay where I belong (I'll stay where I belong)

Chorus: Chandler Moore & Maryanne J. George
I'm coming back to You, ooh
I'm coming back to You, ooh
I'm coming back to You, ooh
I'm coming back to You, ooh

Spontaneous: Chandler Moore
I'm not just coming, but I'm running
And I don't have to run the whole way
'Cause You'll meet me half way
I'm not just coming, but I'm running
You don't make me come the whole way alone
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Bridge 2: Chandler Moore & Maryanne J. George
Here I come running, running
Here I come running, running
Here I come running, running
And I won't look back
No, I won't look back
Here I come running, running
Here I come running, running
Here I come running, running
And I won't look back
No, I won't look back
Here I come running, running
Here I come running, running
Here I come running, running
And I won't look back
No, I won't look back
Here I come running, running (Here I come)
Here I come running, running (Here I come)
Here I come running, running (Here I come)
And I won't look back
No, I won't look back
Here I come running, running (Here I come)
Here I come running, running (Here I come)
Here I come running, running (Yes, I am)
And I won't look back
No, I won't look back
Here I come running, running (Here I come)
Here I come running, running
Here I come running, running
And I won't look back
No, I won't look back

Chorus: Chandler Moore & Maryanne J. George
I'm coming back to You, ooh
I'm coming back to You, ooh
I'm coming back to You, ooh
I'm coming back to You, ooh
I'm not just coming, but I'm running

Spoken: Chandler Moore
What I love about the story of the prodigal son is that when the son made-up, when the Bible said he came to his senses and he was ready to go back, first thing is that he was ready to go back as a slave though he was a son. He was ready to start from the bottom and do something that he was undervalued for. And when the father brought him back, he not just brought him back as a son but he rewarded him with a celebration as if he was there all along. The other thing is that the Bible says that as the son was going back home, that he was not the only one running and going. The Bible says that the father was not just sitting on a porch, waiting for him to come, and just looking at him afar off. The Bible says when the father saw him, that the father begins to run to him, too. And in the Jewish cultures, kings don't run. Like, kings aren't supposed to be running with their long dresses and stuff. But the father broke the rules of normality because his son was in need. And the father began to run, too. So that's why we just say, we just get so excited when we say...

Bridge 2: Chandler Moore & Maryanne J. George
Here I come running, running
Here I come running, running
Here I come running, running
And I won't look back
No, I won't look back
Here I come running, running (Here I come)
Here I come running, running (Yeah)
Here I come running, running (Yeah)
And I won't look back
No, I won't look back
Here I come running, running
Here I come running, running (That's what the Father says)
Here I come running, running
And I won't look back
No, I won't look back (That's what the Father says)
Here I come running, running (That's what the Father says)
Here I come running, running (That's what the Father says)
Here I come running, running
And I won't look back
No, I won't look back
Here He comes running, running
Here He comes running, running
Here He comes running, running
And He won't look back
No, He won't look back
Here He comes running, running
Here He comes running, running (He's not looking at your sins)
Here He comes running, running
And He won't look back (He's not looking at Your past)
No, He won't look back (Here He comes)
Here He comes running, running (Your Father's coming, He's coming)
Here He comes running, running (Your Father's running, running)
Here He comes running, running
And He won't look back
No, He won't look back (Here He comes)
Here He comes running, running (He's running after you)
Here He comes running, running (Surely goodness and mercy will follow you)
Here He comes running, running
And He won't look back
No, He won't look back (Somebody lift up worship)
Here He comes running, running
Here He comes running, running
Here He comes running, running
And He won't look back
No, He won't look back

Bridge 3: Maryanne J. George & Chandler Moore
Lord, I've come to my senses
Let go of offenses
And You come running
You come running back to me
Oh, I've come to my senses
Let go of offenses
And You come running, running
While I am running, running
Oh, I've come to my senses
And let go of offenses
And You come running, running
While I come running, running
Oh, I've come to my senses
And let go of offenses (Oh, we're breaking izz all off)
And You come running, running
While I'm running, running
Oh, I come to my senses
I let go of offenses
You come running, running
While I'm running, running
I've come to my senses (Let go of everything)
And let go of offenses
You come running, running (Running, running)
While I'm running, running (Running, running)

Not just coming, but I'm running

When You see Your son or daughter in pain
In stress and frustration
Lacking joy
You're not just coming, but You're running
All the way, all the way, all the way back

To You

To You Song Meaning, Biblical Reference and Inspiration

"To You" by Maverick City Music, released on October 9, 2020, is a powerful expression of a soul's journey back to its divine source. The song immediately establishes a sense of urgency and commitment, moving beyond mere intention to active pursuit with the phrase "not just coming, but I'm running." This isn't a hesitant approach but a determined movement towards something deeper and more lasting than what is visible or temporary. The lyrics convey a desire to break free from limitations and superficiality ("breaking through the boxes") to reach a place of ultimate connection, visualized as running "to Your throne." This initial posture sets the stage for a theme of earnest spiritual return.

The chorus serves as the consistent anchor of the song, a simple yet profound declaration repeated multiple times: "I'm coming back to You." This repetition emphasizes the core message and reinforces the commitment to return, creating a meditative and worshipful atmosphere. The addition of oohs adds to the emotive quality, allowing space for personal reflection and connection to the lyrics' intent.

As the song progresses, it introduces a dialogue between the individual's present state and the known sweetness of the divine relationship. The lines "What's every other option... When I know the sweetest choice?" highlight a realization that nothing else compares to this connection. The contrast between the struggling "flesh" and the spirit attuned to the divine voice underscores the internal conflict often experienced, and the resolution to not be satisfied with fleeting pleasures. The longing to "taste and see in full what I've only known in measures" speaks to a hunger for a deeper, more complete experience of faith and presence.

The inclusion of spontaneous moments and multiple voices, particularly with Maryanne J. George joining Chandler Moore, elevates the song from a solo reflection to a communal declaration. Phrases like "Coming back to what we've always known, Jesus, it's our first love" introduce a sense of returning to foundational faith and a primary relationship. This shared expression enhances the feeling of corporate worship and mutual encouragement in the journey back.

A significant and impactful element is the spoken word section that directly references the parable of the Prodigal Son from Luke 15. This narrative provides a rich backdrop for the song's theme of return. The reflection highlights two key aspects: the son's humility and willingness to return even as a servant, and, crucially, the father's active role in the reunion. The emphasis on the father *running* to meet the son, defying societal norms ("kings aren't supposed to be running"), powerfully illustrates the unconditional love and eager welcome extended by the divine. This image transforms the narrative from solely the individual's effort to a mutual pursuit, where the divine is also actively moving towards the one returning.

This understanding of the father running shifts the perspective in the subsequent sections. While the initial verses focus on the individual running *to* God, the later spontaneous parts and Bridge sections incorporate the idea of the divine running *to* the individual. The repetition of "Here I come running" evolves to include "Here He comes running," signifying the reciprocal nature of the divine relationship—a movement towards connection from both sides. The lines "And I won't look back" solidify the commitment to leave past distractions and offenses behind, focusing solely on the future of this renewed relationship. The acknowledgement of having "come to my senses" and letting go of offenses directly ties into the Prodigal Son story, where the son reflects on his state before returning.

Ultimately, "To You" is a deeply moving and inspirational song that speaks to the universal experience of drifting away and the profound grace found in returning. It paints a vivid picture of not just a passive deity waiting, but an active, loving parent running to embrace their child. The song's structure, moving from personal declaration to communal worship, incorporating spontaneous prayer and anchored by a powerful biblical analogy, creates a dynamic and heartfelt expression of faith, forgiveness, and the assurance of always being welcomed back home. The repeated declaration "I'm not just coming, but I'm running, You're not just coming, but You're running" encapsulates the core message of a reciprocal pursuit born out of divine love and human longing, running "to my rescue" in moments of pain and struggle.
